Anniversaries. They're important things to many, many people across all of Panem. Whether it's the anniversary of a marriage, any sort of relationship such a as a friendship, an adoption, or even a death, anniversaries play a major role in the lives of people. This surely doesn't just apply to the modern day citizens of the nation of Panem, of course. All throughout history, judging by what Panem historians have been able to find, compile and share with the public in terms of information, anniversaries have always been an important thing for the entirety of the human race for quite a long time. No one could ever be certain how long that amount of time is, either, though. It's just known that anniversaries play an important role in people's lives.
For Charity Candace, the most important anniversary to her wasn't something like her birthday, or the day that she adopted her first turtle as a kid. No, for Charity, and likely for many others, the most important date in her life was the date on which she married her beautiful, loving wife, Amara. Charity and Amara's fifth year wedding anniversary was today, and that meant more to Charity than most other things in her life. Her wife was the most important part of her life now, and she was eternally grateful that that was the case.
The morning of the Candaces' five year wedding anniversary, Charity had woken up early to get a few surprises ready for when her wife was to wake up. Amara was sleeping soundly as Charity prepared her favorite breakfast meal for her. When she heard Amara shifting around in their bed, however, Charity new that her beautiful wife was now awake. Heading upstairs with the hot meal, Charity gently opened the door and brought the meal to Amara.
"Happy anniversary, Love," she told her wife.
As the day went on, little surprises and gestures of love and kindness were exchanged between the two. Charity had lined up a few more things that she surprised Amara with throughout the day, but when evening came along, the biggest surprise would be in store for her.
Having such a large home, one might assume that the Candaces liked to have large gatherings for events such as their wedding anniversary. One would be mistaken, however, as the Candace women much preferred to just keep their celebrations to themselves for this particular event. Had it been a birthday, or something like that, however, they likely would have thrown a large party of some sort. That wasn't the case for their anniversary, however.
That evening, Charity had set up a romantic dinner setting for the two of them. She didn't rely on any help from avoxes, though, as she wanted all of this to be done by her. Charity had even cooked all of the food by herself, which turned out rather tasty, too.
When their candlelit dinner was coming to a close, both women having finished their meals, the two sat there for a little while, holding hands with their fingers laced together across the table. That was when Charity decided that it was time to mention that she had one last surprise for her amazing wife.
"Amara," she said to her. "Happy Anniversary, my dear. I love you so much. Sometimes, I don't think you really even know how much that is, but trust me, the amount of love I have for you is something that is so huge, it'd be difficult for anyone to really grasp and understand."
She lifted her wife's hand to her lips and kissed it gently.
"I have one last surprise for you tonight," she explained. "Would you like to know what it is?"
