[attr="class","shira"] With the help of Akim she had trained herself for this day. In truth, she had trained herself for everything that she could think of that she might have to do, but this was the first step in really getting her name out there. This would be the time when she would have to start setting herself apart from the other candidates. After all, the wife of a previous mayor was now one of her opponents so there was little room to relax. Now, though, it was all about her. She walks onto the stage with a practiced confidence and genuine-looking smile that had taken ages to perfect. The cameras would see her as pretty, bold, and - if she did her job well - the right person to run the district. Still, it would take more than an entrance to win the people over. Her hands are folded before her, resting on the top of the podium where she doesn't have a prepared speech waiting. She specifically wanted to memorize every word she was going to say so that she could look the crowd in the eyes as she said them as show that she meant them. Legitimacy, genuineness, and a powerful self-belief would prove she was the person they needed. "To my neighbours, my comrades, my fellow citizens of district Four, I wish to say that I am so proud of this district we share. We have demonstrated our strength and cunning through the tributes we have sent into the Games, scores of which have done exceptionally well. In fact, in this year we have had the glory of not only having both of our tributes return alive but one come home with the crown. Anatalia Morrisen is a symbol of the courage and unending drive that belongs to district Four. My passion for this district dives me to want to keep it strong. I want to heal the wounds of past loss and keep us moving toward the future as a whole. Of course no district is perfect, and I have seen places where we could improve, but we can work towards the betterment of all of our lives. Our tributes have done so well, as I have said, but in the last fifteen years we have only had two victors. Teaching the youth so they have a better chance of returning to us is a major goal of this district and as such I seek to find more ways to do so and to improve this training. As well, I seek to find ways for those who have aged out of the reaping to use what they have learned to help themselves in their future. So often are those who do not enter the Games left in limbo between being too old to volunteer and too young to work with the few non-combat skills they have. With broadened training and a transitional program for those young adults, we will boost our district's well-being with the betterment of everyone's lives." She looks over the crowd, trying to gauge the reactions on the faces before her. There was no room for doubt here, they would see it and it would tear her hopes apart. "I hope to provide ways for each person to achieve their goals as I am attempting to achieve mine. Everyone has ambitions and I believe everyone should have the opportunity to fulfill them. We can all be the people we aspire to be. We can all make our district more than it was before. This is what I believe." She lets the last words hang in the air above everyone for a moment, gazing at as many individual faces as she can. These faces would look up at her again, she was sure. After all, she believed she was the right candidate. She believed they might just think so too, now. |
