Josiah
Bang!
”There goes another.”
Josie spits out the cherry stone from between his lips into the little bowl on his lap. He throws another of the little sweet fruits into his mouth, munching away as he mournfully views the screen. A day of massacre executed by Zaya, the thrill of the day before crushed beneath the chaos. A favourite of his has been swiped away. Not that a gamemaker is even allowed favourites. The civil war between the District Elevens brings some redemption to the day but Josie is not at all happy.
Another typical games narrative, repetitive, this is not entertainment that the mass wants. Butchery is so six games ago.
Night not only captures the arena but the Capitol too, the few on the night shift fill the gamemakers headquarters and Josie on very little sleep but filled with at least two bottles of pinout grigio still resides in his usual position. ”Now that Zaya has snuck away, I have a plan for day four.”
Josie pushes himself to his feet, making himself the centre of attention in the very tense room. ”Now don’t bother with the sunrise for at least another…say a day?” The gamemaker moves around the room, acknowledging each individual with their own position in his little plan. ”Now don’t worry about the others, I have ran this past them and they somewhat agreed but that is enough for me.”
The map of the arena is enlarged on the screen he stands in front of, its focus on the grassy plains filled with free roaming mutts. ”Now lets send the party there, no distractions like the enormous rock or tatty tent. Drop a magnificent bonfire, a few bales around it, musical instruments and lots and lots of alcohol!” Josie eagerly throws his arms around as he lists the props for his plan. ”Have all this set up for when it turns to day here but keep that moon bright and the stars glistening, day four we are having a party. Let the love stories blossom and the rivalries ache in a little peace! Zaya can get their death another day.”
He bursts through the exit of the headquarters but turns before fully departing. ”Don’t let the day shift know of the plan before I return, especially Gamemaker Reine.”
