XMU is an advanced comics-influenced Marvel AU with a dynamic world and a focus on member-driven plots. We offer a dynamic, realistic world that focuses on adapting to the actions that our members and the characters they play make. There are no overarching staff-driven plots, only those that our members bring around! An interactive "twitter feed" on the site's sidebar keeps everyone up-to-date on the politics of the world and any ongoing plots.
The site takes place when Registration has only recently been enacted, in the wake of an attack by Apocalypse. Jean Grey, wielding the Phoenix, sacrificed her life to save the world, granting immunity from Registration to the X-Men and their students. Tensions are rising, however, as the alliance between the government and the X-Men wears thinner, conditions for mutants worsen worldwide, and the Avengers are divided over the right course of action.
Current ongoing factions/plots:
-X-Men: Following Xavier's disappearance to pursue personal interests, Cyclops has taken over both the school and the X-Men. Despite winning an exemption from Registration for themselves and their students, their work is hardly over. Focused on protecting mutantkind as a whole, the X-Men are doing whatever it takes to save as many as possible -- even if that means increasing tensions between themselves and the governments of the world.
-X-Force: Xavier's dream is no more. Cyclops and Angel have come together and created X-Force, a secret wetworks team that kills those who would do harm to mutants before they can become too much of a threat.
-Civil War: The Avengers are divided over whether or not Registration is a step in the right direction -- Tony Stark preaches responsibility for ones actions, whereas Steve believes targeting people for their genes is immoral and wrong.
-AvX (developing): Tensions between the Avengers and the X-Men on the rise, as each new mutant that appears is caught in the middle of a race for recruitment. Tony and his people want the children to register before they are taken to Xavier's and granted immunity, and the X-Men obviously want the opposite. Tension continues to build between both groups, and only time will tell how it will resolve itself.
-Young Avengers: After dreaming of his original incarnation's family in another timeline, Billy Kaplan recruits Kate Bishop to help him bust his mysterious not-twin out of prison. As information regarding both the conditions he was kept in and his reasoning for being imprisoned come to light, the barely-formed team is caught between a rock and a hard place; do they hide a fugitive, or turn in the boy who was a catalyst for anti-mutant politics?
Developing teams in need of more members: Defenders, SHIELD, Avengers (Core/Secret/Young), Brotherhood
