Name: Chamomile "Camila" Gilbrook
Age: 18
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 3
Appearance:
Chamomile is quite short. Of course though, dynamite does come in small packages. Although she's short she does seem to take command of a room, confident in her very presence. She's not an anxious person, she takes care of herself and uses it as a means of presenting herself to her highest potential. She's always striving to be better, always fighting to make a better future for herself, to carve a path through the means of intellectual exploration and dedication. She sets goals and achieves them. Her appearance is kept clean, and neat. Bright colors keep on her track to her bright future. You'll see lots of reds, yellows, color blocking... not many patterns, She's about as straight forward as it gets, and she's quite unyielding in that sense.
She's an Aries, so she carries flames around with her. It's lava, at this point. Camila is as spicy as a habanero, as sharp as a tack, and about as insufferable as a mosquito. These traits fit quite nicely into the way that she presents herself. Her chestnut hair is normally down, draping over her shoulders in all sorts of wispy waves. Like they're magnetized to the earth, they are straight as straight hair gets. Camila does not wish to carry this fact around often, though, so she'll spend time in the mornings crimping the hair or spicing it up in sort of way. Set the goal, achieve it.
Her wardrobe is quite simple. It's normally some combination of a solid colored top and a neutral bottom. A yellow wool sweatshirt with a black jean, combat boots to finish it off. Or perhaps a red t-shirt with a white short short to bring attention to herself in the midst of a bleak district. From first glance, Camila is quite the bombshell.
What most people don't know is what's on the right side of her lower back... a scar, 7 inches long, from one of her many failed devices. Camila spends a lot of her time compensating for her failed attempts at weapons of human destruction in her neat and beautiful appearance. It's only natural that there's more than what meets the eye.
Personality and History:
As aforementioned, and much like District 3's residents... she's quite the brainiac. It's only something that came natural to her. By District 3's standards though, she's not the sharpest crayon in the box. Some may even look at her as a stupid girl, despite her own personal grip of who she is and what she wants. That's a redeeming quality in herself. She looks at many of the people in her district and sees them so unsure of themselves, like they're just waiting for things to happen in their lives. Camila thinks that, if you want something in life, you go and you get it. Consequences are a result of actions, and Camila embraces the consequences of her risky actions as much as she can.
Camila's lived quite an underprivileged life up this point. Up until high school, she spent her time struggling in school and taking care of a mother that was so wrapped up in her own psychotic ways that she would often get both of them in sticky situations. Problems with bills, a disgusting house, eating next to nothing for dinner... Camila's mom was never one to spend much time making sense, it's even a wonder how Camila grew up the way that she did. She was most definitely not perfect, but she realized after a time that something somewhere must have blessed her to not be as incapable as her mother. Her mother tries, though, and it's gotten much better after sine tune, If it weren't for the insistent and constant rambling of her mother's psychotic theory, most of them repeated multiple times in the same day, Camila would not have the drive she does now. It's also led her to be a little thick skinned, it's hard to penetrate such a tough and hard headed exterior.
But she does also have a soft spot for those less than fortunate. Camila's been known a time or two to make like Robin Hood and steal from the rich and give to the poor. She doesn't have much sympathy for those that have much more than they need, and she's quite manipulative in that sense. Camila knows how to work an argument to her advantage, and also takes pride in it.
Once she'd grown older and gotten a job as an intern for a freelance clock-maker, she'd finally found time to not be stuck in the misery of her mother's company. Their relationship was a strange one. Dad was never quite around and Camila knew that her mother was worse off because of it. She'd caught her one too many times looking at old photos, hearing her crying in the bathroom to think that it wasn't one of the biggest reasons her mother was how she was. But under the wing of Benjamin Craghart, a horologist by nature, like the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland running this way and that, Camila realized what kind of freedom that existed if she let herself reach it, and she's been addicted to that feeling ever since.
Now, although she stands out from the grey air of the third district, the grey is still in her heart. Like most of District 3, the air she breathes is not only polluted by the ramblings and inner workings of machines, but by the heavy weight and tragedy that's within District 3's walls.
Her way to compensate is with her weapons. Not long after she'd gotten the job under Benjamin Craghart, her direct supervision and pupil status led her to learn much more with him than she was ever learning in school. Gears turned out to be quite the subject for Miss Gilbrook, and soon the obsession with gears evolved. Soon she was experimenting with blades based on a combination of springs and gear, with ideas of traps to overtake a predator if it came down to it. Instead of becoming a painter, her art became configuring new weapons. Devices, more like it.
It is Panem, after all, and Camila's not out of the clear yet. She sees it as an advantage were she ever to be reaped. There were always talks of the districts having discourse with the Capitol, sans the Career districts. Benjamin had quickly taken on the role of a father figure, and Camila, throughout the few years of knowing him, had picked up on some characteristics. There was always a plan, and always a solution, to every problem. Camila spent a lot of her time in Ben's shop, repairing clocks... studying the gears... dwelling on her life, but she found comfort in the dim lighting. She found comfort in the way the light shone off the gears, in replacing springs and setting the time as accurately as possible.
She felt it was comic the way that things happened. The timing of things, as ironic as it was working under a clockmaker, was still astounding to her. Her mother had finally stumbled into one of her old time friends from the day, and they'd hit it off. It seemed like Mom had finally found her way out of the dark place that she'd stumbled into. She suddenly started to make much more sense, and as Camila got older, she was much more comfortable with leaving Camila to the house herself while she went out with her new boy toy. Not longer after her mother had met her current partner, Camila had visited Benjamin after she'd seen a flyer posted on a wall in the district.
Suddenly Camila was learning the feelings of independence, of what it would mean to be on her own one day.
This is one of the biggest reasons her hobbies is creating weaponry, so that she can be as independently strong as she possibly can be, and take care of herself. She's quite the talker, and loves to talk about anything. She'll spend time making an argument out of nothing for the sake of doing it. She's always been one to take on a challenge, and wakes up every day with that intention... to conquer the adversity that a day brings.
