The time has descended upon my brother and I like the seasons. Winter was nothing but a thing of the past and with each waking day, it became apparent that Lustor and I were two separate beings brought together by fate and consequence. On mornings that began with the rain, I would wake with a heaviness in my chest and a word lingering upon my ears like an echo from afar that never seemed to end. The constant hum would last for ages but disappear once my eyes focused on the candle light flickering in the corner of the room. Make haste to deliver a pie. Dhruva's words wisped right by my person before the sun had even graced my bedroom window. The feel of a heavy dew dampened my sheets and my skin was etched with the humidity already. Her gentle utterance brought my gaze between the two. From the window, I delivered my attention to the flickering flame. The heat it was giving off was almost unbearable any longer. My right arm that faced the flame was seared from its intensity. I gestured toward the candle urging the flame to dissipate and the effort was futile. "You are a nuisance keeping this room so much more hotter and who left you burning all night." Slight aggravation fueled my movement over to the candle whose wick was almost gone. "A waste of a candle just to have Dhruva refuse me a night out." My lips pursed together and the embers of the wick glowed bright for only a few moments before they died and smoke rose up from it's death. "I'm sorry." I muttered before reaching for the clothes that were neatly laid out and readied for the day. Everyone is asleep. Dhruva announced as the floorboards creaked from underneath, particularly the one board that lay in front of Lustor's room that groaned loudly and whined without weight. A grimace appeared upon my face knowing that sometimes the boards would alert my family to my forest wandering throughout the night, but it was hardly a night for such a joyous occasion. Instead of wandering through the woods for the ingredients to my own psyche, I found myself searching through the cabinets for spices and sugar instead. "What kind..." I question with a whisper as my hand trailed through the forest of herbs. Collections of bottles and jars make it to the counter and the bowl in front of me yearns to be used. The drawer that held the cooking utensils brought forth a memory as the wooden spoon came into view. Do you remember her? She once coddled your cheek with her hand and kissed your fuzzy head. Do you remember her blue eyes and that beauty mark just a hair above her lip? You do. Lustor does to, but he don't see things like us. Remember back to that day. Remember when everything changed? I grasp the spoon and feel a sudden connection. Her spirit always lingers near though Lustor nor I got to know her for very long at all. I'm entranced with the utensil and find myself staring off into the abyss of Dhruva's doings. |
