It probably wasn't the best way to go about things, but the main part of everything in the Capitol that I focused on while there was the food. Most people spent the majority of their time with weapons, or perhaps learning some survival skills. I knew I was probably going to die in the arena, though, so I just focused on enjoying myself. I dove into the food with an empty stomach, ready to be filled. I barely had any food back home. I would have been starving like a street cat in an alleyway if it weren't for me getting tesserae every year.
The Capitol was so different from District Nine. Food was plentiful, and everything from the grass to the buildings to the clothes on people's backs was absolutely gorgeous. It made me a bit jealous, to be entirely honest. It makes me wish I could have been born in the Capitol and just lived here my whole life. Unfortunately, that's not how things ended up working out.
Today was another day in the Capitol before the Eighty-Third Annual Hunger Games, and I was in the dining hall yet again. I had gathered some food on my tray before I sat down at a table. I was seated across from the boy that I believed to be from District Five. Normally, I wouldn't have chosen to sit near anyone, but for some reason, I was feeling somewhat social today, which was very out of the ordinary for someone like me, who was usually a loner on a pretty regular basis.
I looked at the boy for a moment before I looked back to the food on my tray. I took a bite out of an extremely delicious, juicy apple that caused juice to drip down my chin. I quickly wiped it away with a napkin and set my apple back down on my tray. I looked at the boy again.
"Have you tried the fruit here? It's really good," I said to him.
I then took another bite of my apple.
