Chapter Five
A continuation...
A continuation...
The events at the cornucopia was scarce in her mind. She'd lost consciousness and crumpled, vulnerable to the bloodthirsty tributes. Her mind was muddled with the anxiety ridden fear that she had not exactly prepared for the extent of what was to come. The lack of sleep and nightmares played so harshly through her memory that even though she took off away from the cornucopia her threshold was high and everything made her jump. Two people, however, kept bickering at her. One was Wendell's voice, who at just five years old met the tribute to be and his advice was solid.
"Never get caught." She'd almost broken that rule the moment she arrived on that platform. The other was Red, and although her advice was given while she had lay unconscious at the start of the arena's countdown, it was a harsh wake up call indeed.
"I'm fine. I'm okay - they didn't touch me. I don't know how I got out of there without someone killing me, but I did. Red would be so proud if she were alive today. Soul, I know is rooting for me." Scorched like a hot day in district twelve, she found the ability to swallow a hard moment. If she had water, she would be set, but in the arena, provisions of the capitol were beyond a desire. Arching eyebrows brought forth a tinkering noise and as it fell from the sky, she snarled in confusion.
"I fainted... why are you sending me something?" Sarcastically said, she caught the item and the lantern was accepted. She shrugged and held the item and began to wonder where in this dress she'd be able to place the item. She fashioned the strap on her apron to hold the item and once again her hands were free, but her mind was not.
Uncertainty divides her thoughts. While her legs moved forward she's forced to reckon the amount of time she had been walking to putting the distance between anyone that she might have been a target for. Had anyone saw the moment she collapsed on the platform?
Slower and slow Prismarine stepped until something caught her attention. A noise, a shuffling of something behind her and as she glanced to the pumpkin, she let out a wail.
"What is this!" She startled it and it began to run in tiny circles. The grinning pumpkin got no where as Prismarine began to laugh at it. "You can stop. I won't hurt you."
It stopped in it's tracks with the little vine tail swishing back and forth as it walked. Scoping out the tiny legs it had, she bent down to it's level and grinned. "What are you? Are you friendly? If you are friendly, you can come with me." It moved closer.
Over the next hill, she saw the golden grasses and wheat. Her eyes lit up as she took off running into the fields gazing at everything she saw. District twelve had nothing like this with so much color. Many different pumpkins grew there and they were much bigger than the little friend she had walking slowly behind her. "Come on. Is this where you live? Did you get lost, Punk?" She named it.
Prismarine was in awe of the area and for once, she felt comfortable.
