Like many of the children of District 4, Oliver Gatt grew up on the water. Most kids loathed fishing, because it was all they knew for the course of their lives. Oliver however, loved it. He was encased in the thrill of catching the big one as he called it. He had almost caught it before, he knew it was big, he saw it jump out of the water with his hook in its mouth once. It was massive, almost as big as he. As small as Oliver may have seemed, he was unusually strong, standing at a lanky 5'10, and weighing only 160 pounds.
Legend has it, that Oliver caught the biggest fish in his District, he took it into the local market to have it weighed after he caught it. "Golly Oliver!" Mr Wagner, the shopkeeper had exclaimed. It was indeed the biggest one anyone had ever seen, Oliver got praised by his family for it for weeks. No one knew why Oliver spent all his time on his little wooden row boat in the middle of the water, perhaps he loved the thrill of the chase? Oliver was the only child of William and Sarah Gatt, his loving parents, who raised him to be the kid he was today. Along with fishing, Oliver had spent the other half of his time away from fishing training, like many of the other children in District 4, Oliver was a career. Born and bred to compete in the Hunger Games, Oliver was quite efficient with weapons such as tridents, throwing spears, and short swords.
His parents loved the idea of Oliver competing in the games, they wanted the glory for their family, and Oliver wanted it just as much. He was a fairly popular kid in school, had a lot of friends, wasn't bad looking by any means. He worked out often, to keep himself in the best shape he possibly could, he hoped one day he'd get his chance to be on television in front of just about everyone in Panem. He hoped very dearly for that opportunity.
Slick black hair, often parted down the middle, was Olivers signature. Just like his father, his hair was thin, black, and soft. The middle of his face he shared his mothers nose, short, stubby, and round. He had deep dark brown eyes, and a soft smile that would drive any girl mad. He was a fairly rowdy kid, always horsing around with the other careers in his school, sparring with them in the art of boxing, sword play, or just about anything.
One thing stuck out about Oliver though, through his cockiness and his pride, he was very soft in nature, mostly choosing to sit out of the harsh bullying that his friends would do. See, as a popular kid, those underneath you are the target of severe jokes and punishment, he would often sit out, he didn't like picking on kids, he liked everyone, he liked fishing, and he liked training for the games. Other than being rowdy with his friends, Oliver wasn't very outspoken, he wasn't loud. He produced a very soft voice when spoken to.
He didn't like to be considered popular either, he liked everyone in his district, and didn't want to discriminate against them. The only people Oliver didn't like, however, were the District 10, 11, and 12 swine as he called them. Oliver's father was often found jeering at the lower district "scum" during the games. Cheering when one of them perished to a beloved career.
This mindset pushed Oliver to discriminate against those lower districts, it was odd given his personality, he was just always trained to hate those beneath him. Oliver's father was often very harsh on his son. His father was often found pushing him to his limit, making him train harder, and faster than he would've liked. Often Oliver was pushed to tears by his father. Olivers mother, though, wasn't so tough on him, she loved him dearly, and as much as she wanted him to pursue the glory of winning the Games, she didn't quite know how she'd feel about it if Oliver were to actually get reaped.
Once Oliver got into highschool, he maintained a very good GPA through all of his lessons, he wasn't one of the slackers, he prided himself in being smart, and educated. Education, besides fishing and training, was second on the scale of importance to Oliver. Oliver excelled in mathematics and history. He wasn't quite the typical career, but nonetheless he still was a career, and would stop at nothing to one day have an opportunity to gain all the glory in the world by competing in The Hunger Games.

that would never come to me.
Workin' on a mystery, wherever it leads.
Runnin' down a dream."
