Dear Shrimp,

You already know that it’s me, because I cannot keep a secret and because I was so excited that I got you I had to tell you in person and shower you with gifts! And while I’m not a super artistic person I do have a few gifts planned for you over the course of ratmas!

On a serious note, I wanted to start off by letting you know just how important it is to me that I get to say we’re friends. From a personal stand point I know that when I was younger I was not the most gracious person, but that you have always been kind and cared so much about other people. You’re devoted to this place, with your ideas and your passion about characters. Your writing is so thoughtful – the word that makes me think of you – and I can’t say enough how much I admire the detail that you put into your writing.

You take the same care and effort in your friendships, too. I know that you care about the site not just because of it being a place where you spend time but because of friendships, too. You’re someone that will listen and take stock of what someone has to say, and make sure that they feel heard. And you take your time thinking things through. You’re generous and sweet, and you should know that there are a lot of folks that care deeply about you.

I don’t know what took me so long to try to get to know you a bit better, but I’ve been so happy that this past year has felt like I got to introduce myself a little bit better. From tinychats to just sliding into your DMs, to meeting up for coffee and then getting dinner, I think you’re so kind, and that there’s something special about you.

That being said, the second gift (the first being the chocolates – I hope they didn’t kill you, and that you are enjoying them!) I have for you is a reminder of just how amazing you are.

The first thing I thought about doing was trying to showcase a way people felt about you on this site, because I think sometimes we forget just how much we mean to other people. And that I love when other people feel loved and know that they’re appreciated. So I reached out to some folks who I barely even had to ask the question – why do we love shrimp?

Be it your iconic creativity, your love of food (delicious or horrifying - few things are as fun as reading your food porn or getting lost down a rabbit hole of unholy jello creations), or your patience with me when collaborating on site, you are somehow both a voice of reason and a push to go even further and I wouldn’t be who I am today without you. You are wonderful and I just appreciate you so much, both in and out of writing.~lalia

Meeting up at the train station!!! Seriously, it was wonderful to put the human with all the thoughts and conversations shared. Also, I think that meeting allowed us to be more... chill? with each other, for which I'm really grateful.~Kay

One time, long ago during the 64th hunger games, a young dars was reaped for the first time ever. He was supposed to have a field trip the day of the bloodbath, so he enlisted the help of seasoned vet Shrimp. Shrimp overslept, bless him. Dars still managed to get 7th place that games though, somehow. 😂 ~Dars

I know I’ve mentioned it numerous times before, but it bears repeating: if it weren’t for you I probably wouldn’t still be on the site. Back in my days as a newbie, you were the one who checked my bios and gave me feedback, who welcomed and supported me before I’d managed to find someone willing to write with me. It took me probably a month to find someone up for threading, but instead of giving up I stuck around writing bios because of you and I don’t know. Without you I probably would have given up on the site. Not only would I absolutely never have become the writer I am today, but I wouldn’t have so many people I consider lifelong friends. I wouldn’t be engaged to Cara. My life would be so different in such incredibly huge ways that I can’t even fathom the idea of it. So for all of the fantastic things we’ve written together and the days we’ve laughed and plotted and how we’ve met and gone out for dinner and all the other things, I will always be so thankful to you for the very beginning when we weren’t yet friends and we hadn’t even written together. Your smallest moments of kindness changed my life in such massive ways. ~Lalia
