Ratmas Day 4: Peacekeeper Ball

The first thing you notice is the scale. No expense has been spared. Compared to the rustic community of miners in the district outside, inside the academy is a different world. You notice faces you’ve only seen on television- Victors, Mayors, Capitolites, and yes Peacekeepers. Every Peacekeeper, besides the young ones on the force tasked with keeping control of the country for the night, has been invited. Their uniforms are pressed and dazzling white, nearly blending in with the white tablecloths and drapes. Crystals hang from the ceiling each bearing the crest of Panem in its center like a little facist snowflake.
You have been invited tonight because you’re important. Whether by blood connection or earned status, you’ve caught the eye of someone and placed on the train to District Two to see the grand spectacle of the very first Peacekeeper Ball. The enforcers in all white were even allowed to bring dates, despite the rule forbidding families. Nervous young men in borrowed suits and older women who seem to know their escort too well glide across the crystal dancefloor to be shown off to the others. There is a strict dress code everyone had adhered to- the best a poor district citizen can find in any color other than white.
The invitation, gold lettering on blinding white paper, had stated it was a time to recognize the hard working citizens that kept the streets safe. Yet as you look around the room you feel uncomfortable. Despite their nice dress uniforms they are still armed. You wonder if they can tell from a glance your crimes. Your whispers of rebellion, your past of sneaking outside the fence. The homeless you let inside your home to protect them from the Keepers who prowl the streets after curfew.
It is not a celebration of achievement but of oppression and you must survive the night.
Anyone can join the Peacekeeper Ball in District Two as long as you have a reasonable explanation for why your character(s) are there- person in a place of power, a date of a Keeper etc. The thread has started here: The Peacekeeper Ball and posting will go from now to the end of Ratmas.
