Dearest Brother,

It is with great pleasure that I announce to you, through this letter, that I have been offered the position of Gamemaker for the 84th Hunger Games. As you can well imagine I accepted quite readily. Don't be afeared, however, I managed to keep most of my poise in doing so. I will be serving alongside renowned Gamemakers Capricious King and Amethyst Starfyre as the third head Gamemaker. My time serving Cadence Fortissimo and assisting with the design and implementation of Muttations in previous Hunger Games has brought me to the President's attention and he has now given me this exciting opportunity.

Please pass on my best tidings to Mother and Father and show them this letter. I'm sure they will be as thrilled as I am with the news.

She folded the letter carefully and slid it into the envelope. Sealing it, she stamped it and placed it in her outbox. While some individuals preferred a more instantaneous electronic communication, she could never find anything that satisfied her as much as hand writing a letter.

While she did love her brother dearly, they had always been competitive between themselves. Each strived to be better in the eyes of their parents and finally she had a large achievement to show for it. She wished that she could see the look on Gustav's face when he read the letter but there was much she had to do at this time. Planning had to be done, conferences had to be held, and she had to find a stylist to help her look great through all of it. She shouldn't get ahead of herself, though. First thing to do was to meet her two newest mentors. Hopefully she could prove to them that she was a peer before the year was through.

She could never look too daunting, not with her colourful hair and clothes, but she doesn't look like a child either. Growing into herself as a woman and not a girl, she embraces her creative side outwardly while the gray of her eyes is the only let on to the steely determination within. Often wearing heels an inch lower than most capitolites, she is practical with impracticality. While she can't completely abandon her itch to keep up with trends, she keeps herself within check.

There is usually some form of paper in her hands, whether it be a letter, a sketch pad, or notes. Studious and continuously generating ideas, her house is littered with half-formed images of muttations or notes on past examples of traps. From the start she knew she would be involved in the design of muttations and now she has proven she is among the top designers - peak enough to grab the interest of President Snow.

Her brother had gone in a similar direction, but instead of working behind the scenes he intended to be at the forefront of them. Gustav's interest in being an escort never rose in her but she could admire him for it. She was six years younger than him and yet she had made her career first. Despite the thrill of finally achieving greater than her brother, she still desperately wished he could attain his goal soon. A small ache formed in her chest when she remembered her wish for him to be an escort for her first Hunger Games as a Gamemaker. Even so, there was still ever hope that he would make it for the next time she took the lead.

She prided herself on moving forward in her life. Now she had a real career where she was actually the face of something, a feat she had never really managed before. While she had gained some credit for her work within the sphere of Gamemakers and assistants, no one outside of that group knew who she was or what she had done. This time, though, she would really make a name for herself.

Her progression wasn't seen in only her career, though. In her personal life she had made some more effort to be close to her parents - unfortunately without much success. However, she had taken real steps forward in her personal relationships. Her once pen-pal-turned-lover Sam had been cut loose when she realized he was becoming gloomy and jealous of her success, and she had begun trying to connect with others in her social circle more than she had since high school.

She wasn't a brand-new self, but she felt a much better version than she had been before. Just as she always tried to improve her muttations, she finally felt she had managed to do the same with herself. Now she just had to show the world - and most importantly her family - just what her better self could do.

Dear Gamemakers Capricious King and Amethyst Starfyre,

Allow me to introduce myself; my name is Valentine Reverie Seuss. I have recently accepted the position as the third Head Gamemaker of the 84th Games alongside the two of you. It is my honor to work with the both of you.

I once worked as an assistant under Cadence Fortissimo where I became known for my work with muttations. You may be familiar with the MechaByte muttations of the 70th, those are of my creation. I also have controlled a few of the muttations sent out against tributes, including a Little Deer, Orizuru, Shark-shark, and Eraserhead in the 75th. This experience will allow me to assist with muttation-related duties.

I hope to learn much from working with both of you.

So it was to be herself, Capri, and a newcomer. An apprentice to Cadence Fortissimo and a fellow mutt designer and enthusiast at that.

She knew the woman. You don't spend over a decade in the Gamemaking room with someone and not attach a name to a face. Not the most assuming nor striking of types, but competent, and seemingly perfectly content to stay as an understudy since as long ago as the 70th. Hers was the product of those that pushed the limits, creating many of the surreal muttations from the 75th , alongside others that she knew by reputation if nothing else.

A perfect parter in crime to enact her plans.

There was no hiding the grin that crossed her face as she folded the letter back up and tucked it in her coat pocket. Eight years had passed since she'd had a chance at the top office, eight years that had seen people like Zaya Reine bring home two Twelves of all districts, her own former co-Gamemaker Callienta Minorae have another shot at the helm, Cricket Antoinette return to an arena no less surreal but somewhat muted in comparison to her first, and even that old relic Hera bring back two varied victors in the form of a golden boy from Seven and a third straight oddity from One.

But this year, it would be her party. Her best friend Capri on one side, and this new but talented muttation specialist on the other?

Oh yeah, everything was coming together splendidly.
