There's always a certain amount of resentment that comes with living in the shadow of more prestigious, more experienced siblings, and there is perhaps no better personification of this act of psychology than the Careers of District Four. Whispers and rumors fly, few of them good, and the proud denizens of Four seethe, for they know they are being mocked. Never mind that Two has seen an entire generation of Careers born, trained, and aged out or died without seeing a victor, or the fact that all One seems to be good at is bringing home oddities that loosely or barely define their family's values, let alone their districts - Four has fared no better, bringing home one girl in the nearly thirty years since Leon Krigel and Siren Baitwell clashed under a hot desert sun, a girl whose very legitimacy as a Victor is questioned on the daily considering that every single one of her twenty three rivals bar one still draw breath to this day, nearly four years after the Quell.
No. This will not do. Four must rise on its own two feet, prove that it too can send forth and bring home their victors. Bell Hailsham was not an exception - she was the rule - and taking the idea from their brethren in Two, they must not simply preach it.
They must show it.
Some of y'all might remember my tournament in District Two from last year, and given that it was something of a hot mess at the time of inception I've decided to try something similar but new at the same time, under the different brand. For those of you that weren't around last year, unlike the OOCG and many past boneass JFFs that we've held over the years, this is something closer to the actual Hunger Games in concept. Simply put, it's a sixteen person single elimination tournament, where the Careers of Four fight to prove their mettle and emerge as the dominant force with the 85th Quell looming on the horizon.
For this tournament, (ideally) four people from each house will sign up, submitting an actual Career character of theirs between fourteen and eighteen (smols not allowed for this tourney) where you would therefore be sorted into a bracket and engage in duels, complete with dice and blitz length in character posts and all.
The rules are similar to last year's and are quite simple. Being carried over from last year are; first character to twenty five damage loses, winner moves onto the next round, loser is eliminated, instas do ten damage bc we don't want death here, and any permanently altering injuries such as severs and stabbed out eyes may be included at the target's discretion. One notable difference from last year is that the weapons will be limited to spears and tridents, unless there is a valid reasoning for an exception, as the people of Four are a proud folk and carry their fishermen heritage with pride.
Unlike last year, where I tried and failed to have this occur over a single day, this event will be a four day affair, with each day equaling one round of the tournament both in character and out. This will give people time to write things out and take things at their own pace - although blitz length posts are still highly recommended and the fights will be closed at the end of each day regardless as to whether it's finished in character or not.
Ideally, we'd have exactly four from each house sign up, as that's the maximum number from each house allowed in this event, but I won't impose a hard limit so long as y'all agree that if more than four from one house sign up that not everyone will get in. Additionally, if you have multiple D4 Careers that you want to enter, you can throw them all at the signup sheet and I'll chose the one I feel would be most interesting to have in the the tourney. Please do note that non-Careers are generally discouraged from applying, though I am open to being convinced if you can give me a very good reason.
Speaking of the signup sheet, without further ado, here is the signup form! Signups will close at 11pm PST today, or just under 23 hours from now, and matches will go up promptly at midnight!Name:
House:
Character(s) you are entering (with links):
Everyone that signs up automatically gets 5 points both for their house and themselves, with a yet to be determined number of points for each match partaken in. This signup is assuming you will be around enough over four days to finish a blitz length fight in a roughly 23 hour period.
And of course, as always, if there are any questions, just @ me on slack!
