They really should have known better.
The other districts would survive without their Keepers. Too scared to even dare step a toe out of line, wary of the cameras and the odd few in white still stationed throughout the days and nights. The people of Panem were a docile folk, happy to stay out of trouble and keep their families safe from wrath. But a District full of orphans and criminals, who'd spent their whole lives getting into trouble fighting for themselves? They'd been trained to take an opportunity when they saw it. It was the only way they'd managed to survive this long.
District Nine was a warzone, even with Peacekeepers at every street lamp. District Nine without Keepers? Absolute chaos.
It was a risk to pull out most of their forces - a risk the Capitol would pay for. The gang leaders and drug runners swore mutiny one night, all gathered in a half-finished warehouse once all the builders and common-folk had gone home. Townspeople with money, spare hands, gravestones and wicked thoughts joined them too. Traitors, rebels, mourners, criminals from all walks of Nine life stepped over boundary lines and tiptoed through enemy territory: but they weren't there to cut down just any old foe.
Gathered around in the moonlight they put their grudges and differences aside and hatched a plan to strike when the country's great army of soldiers were at their weakest. They'd begin at different areas, wield weapons and masks, overthrow the smaller groups of Keepers stationed in the outskirts and meet in the middle. At the beginning, they were allies fighting alongside one-another. But would they all still stand together by dawn?
Anarchy on the brain, bloodshed on their lips, Nine's riots were born in the dead of the night.
OOC Rules:
As the great Hayley Williams once sang, "this heart will start a riot in me let's start, start hey!"
It's a riot!! If your characters would like to smash some windows, loot the merchants, or join in some light combat, this is the night to do it!
You will have 24 hours to sign up in this thread with the following signup form:
Name:
House:
Character(s) you are entering (with links):
Each member can enter up to two characters for this event, which will run from Jan 5th to the end of Ratmas. (You are welcome and encouraged to sign up Peacekeepers stationed in District Nine who are not attending the PK Ball, and well as Wanderers who may have snuck into the district.) In addition to signing up here, please privately DM the Vetmemes (Lyn𝛿is , kap , ghosty , and the honorary vetmeme ✨ zozo. ) either here or on Slack with the location each character is heading to for the night of the riot. The whisper on the street is that the action will be centered at 6 locations:
1. The Town Square
2. Train Station
3. Peacekeeper Barracks
4. The Factories
5. Merchant's Row
6. Warehouses
At 12:00AM on Jan 5th, we will put up one thread for each location, and the rioting may officially begin.
Characters must remain at the location they initially selected for the entire night, unless they are incapacitated [i.e. reaches 25 damage].
- Each character has 25 damage. Instas will count for 10 damage. Turn Delay will not take effect.
- Any permanently altering injuries such as severs and stabbed out eyes may be included at the target's discretion.
- You may start with any weapon your character could have realistically obtained before arriving at the riot. (We're not going to enforce this, but imma 👀 you if your street urchin starts stabbing PKs with a giant trident.) You can also fight unarmed.
- Posting order is not required for any non-attack posts. You may only attack targets who have posted after your previous attack, with the exception of your first attack post (i.e. intro posts are not required).
- Each character may be attacked at most twice between their own posts.
- Fighting is not required for this event. Please be respectful to your fellow writers about engaging in combat.
But, you might ask, what if none of your D9 kids are troublemakers? First off, are you sure they won't pass up the opportunity for some law-breaking while the Keepers are gone? Otherwise, you may also write your characters as passerby who react to and interact with the unfolding chaos.
Each member who posts at least once will receive 5 Ratmas points for their House. In addition, for each location, the Ratmas House with the most characters remaining standing there at the end of the event will claim the location, and all participating members of the House will receive 5 points per location their House claims. (In case of a tie, points will be evenly divided between the tied houses. For the purposes of this tally, the set of members not assigned to a Ratmas house will be considered as a fifth House.)
