Jealousy became me. After watching my newest alliance member smack that spear straight through the bullseye, I felt an overwhelming amount of curiosity if I too could achieve the amount of perfection she managed her first throw. While the bow and arrow seemed to be a simple calling, being a jack of all throws would be more adaptive to my abilities.
Stationed at the hologram programming, I swiped through a few of the pages, looking at attacks and damage levels. How many targets were flashing in front of my eyes. Biting into my lip, I clicked the button up to ten and with a few more buttons, I set the difficulty and began to eye who was closest to me. The competition between my allies was fun but to challenge someone who wasn't part of the group could potentially set their skill level to be seen.
"Hey you." I looked to her uniform to see the number. "Twelve. Join me - let's see how we fair? Names Angevin. Best out of ten?"
As I let her contemplate the offer, I stagger off to the spears, collecting several into my hands and bring them to the station. Aligning them to the floor where I'll be staying, I hear the machine start prematurely. "Well, shit. Guess I don't get any practice shots."
The machine whirls to an open, the area darkening and lights dancing in the little room. I collect two of my spears and wait. Around my location, I watch purely out of amusement. Nothing like this was back at home and the amount of time it took to come up with this program was amazing, but a head poked out from beyond the corner nearest me. I turned immediately impaling the hologram and it zipped away. Two more hologram creatures came out, not so human though.
They pawed their way toward me and I threw the remaining spear in my hand before clambering to the ground to pick up one as the green tailed creature jumped and impaled himself on my spear. Sparkles of light shower me.
"This is fun." I murmur and wait for the next sets. I missed a mark as I reached for the spears at my feet only to get a light shock as I felt a dull hit against my back. No sooner do I turn, but another jolt shakes my arm. The attacks against me are coming out of nowhere and I feel my leg twitch with a third I've missed, but before another can reach me, my blade is slicing through the air, taking out the person through its head. Lights disappear.
My heart races as I neatly take out the remaining three with ease and the simulation shuts down. On the screen, I can see my score. The numbers missed verses hits.
"Six out of ten. Could be worse." I turned to the door of the simulator and brought out the remaining spears. "You're up - don't choke with whatever weapon you are using."
