Silence, it is becoming a new gift. I do not think it has even been a full month yet, but I am just about ready to throw down the towel. I was not cut out for this, especially an unplanned attempt at being a father. I have not even told Angel yet, but I guess that message will be passed through Teddy to Mackenzie at the next games. What will Angel think…
Crying. Again. Then a sudden eerie hum throughout the house as the lights go dark. I sit on the edge of my bed, head in my hands as I prepare to cater for whatever need Georgie has now. The damn girl is so high maintenance. I will have her pushing hospital beds as soon as she walks though, a lesson on how hard I have worked for her.
Boom!
Vibrations rattle through Teddy’s house, then follows a scream. It is hard to juggle Lili’s pleas and Georgie’s cries, but I abandon the need to search for dear old Teddy Ursa and arm myself with diapers, a bottle and baby powder. Whatever has happened outside, is clearly not something for me to deal with. That is not my department, let the victor clear up whatever has collapsed or whatever some dick has blown up.
”Do you want milk? Have you wet yourself? Binky time?” I cradle her in my hands, rocking the tiny infant back and forth, my eyes on the darkness out of the window. It all seems a bit manic out there, but I have already been to hell and the date on the return ticket is not on this winter’s day. It takes a while for Georgie to finally settle. A whole bottle and a clean diaper later and she finally closes her eyes, comfortably laid in the cot that Teddy helped me dig out.
I make my way downstairs, the empty milk bottle in my hand. ”What the fuck has been blown up? Did you find Teddy?” I ask Lili as she comes through the door, her face confirming that it must be a shit show out there. ”Has the power been cut?”
