[attr="class","angerytoad"]He could barely remember the time when he had held doubts about Ripred. With each passing moment of study he had become more and more entrenched in the belief that had been rampant within him since birth. His mother had been right, that what he needed was to find a continued meaning, an ongoing way to serve Ripred beyond his little gestures. The couple times he had shown an interest in a tribute - Temple Jones and Exover Endor - were a start but not nearly to the level of what he was meant to do. So he had gone to a small sect, imploring the help of one of the priests to train him. Ripred himself was a guide, but he would not deign upon him the level of tutelage that was required to make him a true priest of Ripred. He was, after all, a god of many and unable to focus solely upon even his chosen warrior at all times. Instead, as directed by his rat and the whispering down dark alleys, he found the man who could and would instruct him in greater detail than even his mother could do. The man readily accepted the duty, pleased to serve both Ripred and his son, The Spear. In a year's worth of time they had reflected on the lessons collected in texts as well as those passed on by oral tradition. Hymns, sermons, tales. He took in each, absorbing them into his mind and self like a salve. They soothed his searching heart with a sense of peace and belonging. He felt as though he was coming back home, and so he was. His tutor impressed upon him the great thankfulness he should feel at finding himself in possession of such an important destiny. After all, he was Ripred's spear, he was the one who would bring light to the god once again. He had been given another chance so long after he had abandoned his initial quest. The period of life where he had fought with himself and his god was past now, forgotten in the dark shadows where he had hidden for those long lonely years. Even with his brother and his mother beside him, he had been lonely. Only a void had filled him then, a black hole draining the light of his family's love until only a starless expanse remained. Now, in the glow of a growing star, he began to spin a new galaxy around him. The stunning beauty of nebulae and distant budding planets, the birth of a million tiny points of light. Soon he would shine bright enough to be seen once again. His rat sleeps curled in the crook of his neck, head cupped against his collar bone. She, resilient and faithful, had stayed with him, unwavering in the face of his waning faith. Like the moon, she knew his belief would wax once again. Only now, he would not allow the shadow to claim his light. There was still a long way to go, but he was finally on the path to who he was meant to be, he was sure. Ripred, I am returned. Forgive me for my absence. He was a prodigal son, returning with renewed faith to the father who had watched silently as he turned his back.
