My twin sister Vanessa, or as we call her, Nessie, had been having some heart problems recently, and she had to be admitted to the cardiac wing in the District's central hospital. Today, Mom, Dad and I were going to visit her. My other siblings had gone to see her yesterday, and said that she was doing much better, which was certainly a good thing. I'd been having a good day so far, and I was looking forward to seeing her today, skipping as we went, heading towards the hospital. I was carefree, not a worry in the world.

We were almost there when it happened. The explosion, that is.

BOOM!

"No!" I screamed. The wing of the hospital that Nessie was in had exploded. Everything erupted into chaos. People started running in all different directions. I tripped and fell, debris trapping and crushing my foot so that I couldn't get away from what was happening.

"No!" I screamed again.

I was sobbing, but not from the pain I was feeling. Instead, it was from the pain of what I knew had just happened. I'd just lost my sister. There was no way that she had survived that explosion. Nessie was gone. Vanessa Query was no more, and I didn't know how I'd go on without her.

"No, no, no!" I sobbed.

I didn't know how to handle this. I didn't know where my parents were, either, having lost track of them in the chaos. Now, I knew I just needed them to be okay. My own twin sister wasn't okay, but I still needed my parents, but I didn't know where they were right now.

"Someone help, please!" I begged through my tears. I didn't know what to do, and I needed help. I just needed someone. Face in my hands, I couldn't stop crying. The tears just wouldn't stop flowing, and I didn't know when they ever would.

Morning had finally come for Quade. His fingers ached and his mind numb to the ever growing same ritual day after day of working at the waste facility. This morning though marked the beginning of a long needed vacation for him with two days off coming up and as he clocked out for the final minute of his working shift, he claimed his things from his locker and began to walk out. His coat hugged against his thin frame as the men he worked with over night waved to their relief coming in. The men acknowledged the newbie that he was still considered to be as a clap on the shoulder was given and with a compliment of a good night. "Thanks. I'll see you in a few days." His days of running around had come to an end as his age deemed him a man to his parents and until the last reaping came around, he was pushed to pursue a job in an eventual career. Working with medicine would have been his first choice, but that required further schooling whereas the waste treatment plant was on a hands on training program. It was enough to get started and get a fund going for the education to come. By the time he walked home, which was not that far from the facility, something happened. A loud noise echoed and before he could reach his door, the force of the blast toppled him over and his house rumbled as he jerked up and looked back to see the cloud of smoke. "SHIT! MOM! AMBER... SOMETHING'S HAPPENING! WHERE'S DAD?" He screamed out as he ran inside, looking frantically for his family, but Amber's the only one that came to greet him. Out of breath from the adrenaline, he choked up. "What's wrong...did you hurt yourself again? What? Someone else?" Her annoyance was clearly noted until she saw the panic in his eyes and it was not something that she was used to seeing, especially on him. "Okay. Okay. Mom went to go see dad for lunch. He went to work this morning and to go to town. What's wrong?" "There was a blast - something - there's smoke everywhere from my work's location. I need medical supplies, uhh, bandages and gauze. Help me gather - anything - just in case. You need to stay here. You have to hide until I get back. I don't know what's going on. You'll be safe in the basement." He ran to their parent's bathroom raiding the closet and as Amber entered, she held out her backpack to him. "Here. Use this." She offered and as the stuff was pushed into the backpack, he guided her to the basement. "Be safe. Don't come out unless absolutely necessary, you hear me? It's my job to be hurt. Not yours." He joked with her, messing her hair up and dashed out the door. His parents worked at the lab in the hospital and if he knew how to get help and to inform them about the waste plant's unfortunate moment, he'd need all the help he could get. He only hoped that there was a light to this dark situation. Until as he got closer to the hospital his hopes were dashed. Another explosion sent him spiraling backward as the wave of debris scattered. The sound of crashing windows and breaking foundations infiltrated his senses. The pavement scraped his cheek and he covered his body until he looked up to see the place and the smoke. "Two? Two... different places. What's going... we're being attacked?" "Someone help, please!" The voice sounded so far away yet muffled with tears. As he stood, he wiped his face and noted the burn against his skin. The voice stopped though. He wished it would sound out once more so he could hear where it was coming from. He still went in search of the area where he'd heard it. Where this tiny voice came from and rounding the next corner, closer to the hospital, that's where he saw her. Her bright wisps of red hair so much like his own and for a moment his heart dipped in fear that it might have been his younger sister Amber. Only, that couldn't be true. He left her at the house safe and sound in the basement. This girl wasn't his sister, but could have been. "I'm here! I'm coming - " He yelled out, dancing around the debris as he got closer and noted the dusty red hair and the tears falling down her face. He placed a hand on her shoulder. "Hey! My names Quade. What's yours?" He took a moment to remember reading his parents books on first aid and medicines. Anything medical related to assess the situation but his mind finally went blank. He did notice however her foot jammed under debris and the people that started to come out of the woodworks. "Okay. Let's free you, okay? I'll take you to my mom and dad. I'll get you fixed up. Where's your parents? Were you alone?"
