A cheeky grin had spread across my lips as my hand closed around the bottle. Mum, nor Anges, had seen me sneak into the liquor cabinet. Nor would they have expected me too. I wasn't usually the type of girl who broke the rules, especially when I didn't have Darlas influences to coax me. Darla was usually the one that mum and Anges had to keep an eye on. But not today, today I had decided that I would push the boundaries of my comfort zone, on my own. After all neither my name or Darla's had been called at the ceremony, meaning that today I would celebrate.
Most careers would not be celebrating this day, they would be overwhelmed with disappointment. And maybe I would have been too if Darla has not reminded me a couple weeks out that my fists would not suffice when it came down to it. But that's okay, all it meant was that I had another year to really polish up on my skills. Not that I really desired to become a tribute of District Four.
Quickly I place a couple bottles in the bag that I was carrying, making sure that they were secure and would not rattle and give me away, before slipping from the house. Hastily I make my way down the street, my feet carrying me eagerly to the where the sand meets the ocean. My second home, well that and the fighting ring of course. Reaching the beach I wriggle my toes into the pristine white sand, I listen to the waves, they sung a song about freedom. One day I hoped that I would hear the rest of the lyrics, but today I had other things on my mind. Taking a seat in the sand I pull out a bottle, Vodka.
Yes, this would do just fine.
I raise it up to the sea, my eyes dancing.
"To another year!" I yell before talking a gulp of the throat warming liquid.
