The invitation had come during the first period, buried in hushed whispers amongst restless students.
Darla had been snagged by her sleeve and pulled into the mess, her smile as bright and excited as the rest of her classmates. The notion of a beach party was a welcome one. Firstly, Darla loved the beach, she felt inclined to spend more time within the waters of the ocean than on land. Secondly, she really fucking loved to party.
And who better to drag along than Evie?
Her smile was glued to her lips as she skipped down the halls, skirt flowing around her as she greeted each of the familiar faces. A few of the boys waved at her and she responded in kind, fingers twinkling as she hurried over to her best friend. Starting early in the morning was the best course of action. Darla estimated that between now and the start of the party she could wear her down enough to get her to accept.
She had always been good at that. “Evieeeee,” she called in a sing-song voice, planting herself against the lockers beside her friend. “We’ve got plans for tonight, so scrub away any studying you’d set for yourself.”
She had a terrible habit of demanding Evie’s full attention, more times than note with disregard to her best friend’s own desires. It was never out of malice or cruelness, just misguided by the belief that she thought she was helping.
“Me and you, a bottle of tequila, and a beach party,” she sighed dreamily, turning her gaze to the yellow-tinted ceiling of the school. Then, all in one moment she turned her attention back to Evie, leaning forwards and fluttering her eyelashes as she smiled; the devil on her lips.
“Whadaya say?”
