Vera Rhodes

The train ride to the Capitol was amazing, and now Vera sits on a couch in the lobby of the district eleven floor wondering what to do. Sometimes obeying her parents pays off, but she's here at the Capitol, and seeing as much as she saw through the windows of the train as it flew by makes her want to know more. Why is Father so protective right now? Not touching anything takes all the fun out of it, and now Vera wants to explore everything. She sits and waits until everyone is out of sight, and she waits some more making sure nobody returns back. A couple of days is all it took to figure out the schedule of those living on this floor, and she wants to keep it that way.

It doesn't take much, but after the sunsets, and doors are closed, Vera sneaks through the halls. Tiny toes tapping ever so lightly against the floor. Sometimes her eyes find a random Avox standing in the corner, and all she wants is to make sure nothing will happen;

They can't speak. It'll all be okay.

And she stops when she's standing before the door of her brother. Manwe came along with them, and she wants to explore with him. To see everything that's being kept away from her. She carefully sneaks inside, and she sneaks up to his bed. Sometimes startling people isn't fun, yet she knows that being too loud can cause chaos nobody needs right now. She takes a deep breath before tapping his foot.

"Manwe, dad's asleep. Let's go explore." Keeping her voice down is hard because so much excitement bubbles within threatening to burst at any given second. "Just have to keep quiet. There's a whole world out there." Vera takes a step back towards the door keeping her ears open listening for any sounds out of the ordinary. Sometimes a girl just wants to have fun with her brother, and that might mean getting in trouble.

Manwe Rhodes

Being in the Capitol is so different compared to back home. I'm used to seeing shacks for houses, and it's kind of sad. So many people in eleven struggle to get by, and the people here are so well off. They have more than what they need, and a table of food would make the district so happy, but I have no way of getting it home. I've eaten so much food, that I feel like my stomach is going to explode at any given second, and it's hard to go to sleep. These beds are definitely more comfortable than back home, but I miss my own bed. I miss having my books, but at least I have one here.

Every night I've been reading to help turn my mind off. Sometimes it's so loud and racing from the day and seeing all the people and exploring what little Dad would let me makes me tired. But it's not like at home. My eyes dart back and forth across a page, and before I know it, it's getting late. I know I can get in trouble for being up later than I'm supposed to. At home, I have a bedtime, and I need to make sure to I stay true to that even here. I'm about to finish up a chapter when the door flings open. I drop the book under the covers, and I quickly lay down before whoever it is walks inside.

I close my eyes and start breathing softly pretending I am asleep, and that's when I feel someone touching my foot, and I'm about to jump up in the air screaming when I hear Vera's voice. She wants to go explore. Everyone is asleep so it's the perfect time to go explore, but we were told not to touch anything, and we could only leave the floor if we were supervised. As fun as it sounds, I don't want to. I want to just lay in bed and read my book. I start shaking my head. "We can't. Dad told us not to. I don't want to get in trouble." I know it's now what she wants to hear, but I don't want to get in trouble. Vera has got me into trouble many times, and I don't want that to happen here.
