The winds seem to have grown harsher, colder.
It didn't seem possible at first, but as you sit arms wrapped around legs you realized that it is very much possible and it has certainly happened. Maybe it is all the death, the spirits of the others chilling the winds. Or maybe the Gamemakers are more cruel than you thought and wish to see your fingers fall off and your nose turn black.
Neither would surprise you.
You are basking in the eerie silence of the winds echoing around the seemingly empty arena when the peace is broken by the wailing of the anthem. You force yourself to squint as you look up, trying to see through the snowflakes that obscure your vision.

You count silently on your fingers. Four faces. Four more people dead, four less people between you and home.
11 more must die if you ever to leave this place.
Congratulations on surviving Day Five!

Ghost Trees
When you enter the Ghost Trees, everything is strangely silent.
You're immediately wary. Silence is never a good thing in the Arena. Despite the unsettling aura of the area you are determined to go on, weaving between the glittering trees. Everything is still. Even the kodama have fled the area.
You soon realize why.
The frozen ground shifts beneath your feet. You try to move but suddenly it's as if everything is crumbling beneath you, swallowing you whole. Despite your best efforts you fall, crashing into the darkness below.
Only it isn't dark. As your eyes adjust you realize that this frozen underground cavern is alight with the shimmering, opalescent roots of the trees above. Waves of shimmering light bend and dart beneath the roots, giving everything an eerie and beautiful glow. Everywhere you turn you see a dozen reflections staring back at you, shimmering in a pale rainbow of color and looking so real you're almost convinced that you could reach out and touch them. Your hand meets solid ice instead and the images fracture momentarily. Whatever this place is - a house of mirrors, the heart of the Arena's aurora borealis, a hallucination injected into you by the Gamemakers themselves - it's meant to trick you. It's a beautiful deception, but one that strikes fear into your very core. You're not sure what's real anymore.
And you're not alone.
[The Roots of the Ghost Trees is full of reflections and tricks of the light that make it nearly impossible for tributes to tell what is real and what is not. In reality, tributes have been placed in two separate caverns and thus can only attack the tribute they have been placed with. However, they are still able to see and hear the other tributes in the Roots.]
