Whenever the Scooby-Doo gang chased around monsters, I never understood how someone could commit such nefarious deeds! Spooking people simply so they could have treasure all to themselves? How selfish!

Now I know, though, what being the monster feels like. Except in my case, I didn't just scare someone away, I murdered someone. I murdered Velma Dinkley. It appears that my friend has murdered someone as well.

"So, I guess we're in this for the long haul. Hopefully it gets easier."

I am a hex girl, after all. Maybe there's some sort of spell to make it all go away.

For now, a pier seems like a safe place to land.

For now lasts but only a second, as another foe lands nearby. Wait.. where did Joey go? My spear is ready to challenge them. The rest of the tributes are simply drums for me to play on, from the batter head to the shell. And I'll play a heavy metal tune.

Penelope made her way to the pier. She was tired and hungry and hurting everywhere. She looked at the person across from her. She took a deep breath and smiled just a little. "Thats how I like it." This was it there was no turning back now.

My drumstick misses its landing and scrapes upon the wooden planks of the pier. How unfortunate, as the woman's exchange is much more painful. It tears into my arm.

Oh, if only Joey were here, he'd know just how to fix it! He'd have a spell, or something of the sort, to make all of the pain go away.

I don't understand how this can be real. I'm simply a cartoon character, not some real life human being with emotions, a real body, capable of feeling real pain. I'm a timeless trademark of a timeless show.

I can't die, I won't allow it!

Adversity for the first time in this place, I begin to sing my song.

"Well, if you like it so much, I'll just give you more.

Once again, her drumstick cuts deep into me. I shout, almost dropping my own spear from the pain. But no. I'm a Hex Girl, eco-goth. I am a good person, with good intentions. I can't fall here, I deserve more.

More than a once-in-a-blue-moon showing on a kids show. More than a shoulders-up view of me from the back of the stage at our concerts. Thorn, Luna, they're great, but they'll never know what its like to feel invisible.

I channel the strength of the ocean below and the winds from above.

Although my hit personally didn't seem to land a fatal touch, my music must have done some kind of wonder. The girl misses her next attack, and somehow, I'm back in this. I just need to keep playing the tune, slaying the song, and I can get out of this battle!

Humming the beat as I go, I stomp the spear on the ground. Dusk, you're a hex girl. We believe in you, and now all you have to do is believe in yourself.

I do a quick spin in a circle, continuing my humming.

She was just at everything now, all the noise and chaos around was just filling her. This was nothing more that just racing in cars around some track somewhere. She knew what she needed to do. This person in front was just another car that she needed to get by.

The turn-around is quite apparent, but I can't lose my focus. This battle started with my opponent getting the upper-hand, and it could very well return to that if I'm not careful.

I can see it, though: the Hex Girls, a television show, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm. Only thirty minutes (we don't hog the screen like those weird real-people who take up a whole hour.) Oh, how wonderful that would be!

This is my part of the audition tape, and I simply can't let my sisters down. Thorn, Luna- let's do this!

All them car going around and around, just like this, this was going in the same direction. There was nothing but distance and that flat open road right in front. This was nothing and everything at the same time. Just to get past the next car that next person. That is what she was doing to get passed the person that was in her way.

She remains silent. I can feel everything beginning to close. It's clear to me now that she's not going to back off, even if I begin to unmatch her. And who can blame her? Cartoon characters like us don't seem to age; we're just stuck in an endless time loop for the humans' enjoyment and pleasure. This is the only way out.

If you want a way out, that is.

I simply want a way in. Unfortunately, I have to get through the rest of these characters before I can get there.

Drum soloists aren't exactly popular, but here I am, ready to knock the pier off of its feet.

Looking at ahead Penelope thought that this was just another one of the car that wanted to outshine her, but she wanted to knock off the road and she wanted to do just that, winning a race was all in her mind and to stop those who wanted to get past her. She needed to get to that next stop.

I feel the pounding in my heart rise. Soon, Dusk. We're gonna make it out of here soon, one way or another. It may not be pretty, but it appears that we're approaching the end of this battle. Maybe another swipe or two and then it could be finished. It appears that battling ghosts with the Scooby Gang all this time might finally be beginning to pay off. I'm able to handle my own.

In fact, the independence and fearlessness I feel is not hindered by my loneliness, but rather emboldened.

My drum stick clashes with the wooden floorboards once again before I thrust my spear at her. Soon, they'll have their victor.

It seems that the race was nearly at an end, the flags were in sight. She knew that she had to hold on a little longer hopefully. She needed to reach the end. She pressed down that peddle in that the hope that she could go faster and get this roadblock out of her way.

My song has finished. My opponent lands another wounding shot at my stomach, cutting in. I almost want to give up. The pain grows intolerable, and there's no spell that Joey nor I could create to make it go away. Cartoons don't have pain, so they have no resolution for it.

But I hear the girls in my head, chanting encore, encore!

I'll give the crowd what they want. I hum as loud as I can and continue to drum.

Closer.. closer.. Almost there… now! I lunge with the spear, hoping the curtain closes for her and the crowd roars for me.
