I have become everything I was afraid of. Who knew I had this strength in me? The ability to kill not one but two people. Will this be my legacy? Death, destruction, mayhem. I close my eyes and think only of the lanterns. How beautiful they must be, up close. I want to see them more than anything. I want to hold one in my hand and release it into the air. But like the lanterns, so too have I been released, my innocence lost with every swing of my blade.

Something hits my feet, I look down to find some wonderful pop made out of SUNSHINE dang't! Just kidding, it's sunny D. I grab it and down it in one gulp, and close my eyes again, this time flying on bubbles instead of flame.

I sense something else, and open my eyes to meet the eyes of yet another foe. Let's go.

The palm trees whistled a lovely tune. If it had been any other day, she would have stopped to listen and to wonder at the strange sight before her. What even was the material that had been twisted into hills? But not today.

Today she mourned all she had carried in this strange, cursed place.

Today, as she found two others adrift in the park, she said only: "is anyone else weary? I can find no more magic anywhere."

A tear slowly fell.

i feel like i'm all twisted up inside. like there's something wrong with me. after i kill adora, i feel like i can't be in my skin, and i turn into a tiger, stay that way until the sun goes down and stay awake through the night. i don't go searching for anyone, just sit there, curled up a few feet away from where adora bled out, a tiger too awake, too asleep. when the horse—no, when the unicorn and the girl show up, i do not shift back into my human form even though it's easier to fight in. instead i steady my claws, and dive. i go for the human girl. let me have one last ally. maybe. and the blonde attacks me first, slices the same place on my stomach where adora did. reopens old wounds. "fancy seeing you again."

I finally take a moment to look at my surroundings, just as my body is speared with a horn. I look down to see the most beautiful creature my eyes have ever beheld. I could never hurt this creature, even as it attacks me. If this is my way to go, so be it. I see a non-friend from before, one who was there to kill my friends. I aim my shiny stick at it instead, ignoring the beautiful creature in front of me.

"You...you killed my friends," I warn, and swing.

It's-a me, Mario echoed on the wind, though she had not seen her miniature horse in some time. Unicorn shook out her once-glorious mane, now matted and tarnished by her days in the arena. It was clear the other two knew one another; it was not a friendly knowing.

Unicorn bowed her head. "If this is to be the end, let us make it as painless as possible."

you killed my friends stops me dead in my tracks. knocks the wind right out of me. and i get a knife deep in my thigh because of it. no more playing nice. dora did not die just for me to die here, now, not a day later. that's not what she deserves. i want to hit the girl again, but the horse is right there, and i feel something dark inside of me shatter when i intentionally attack another animal. "i hate it here," i say around a sob. "i hate it. i just wanna go home."

I'm so lonely. I've never been so lonely before, even in the tower. There, at least, I had Pascal and mother. Something tells me if I had stuck around, I'd have had a different life. Something new and exciting, but not this. I want only to go home, not to attack the gorgeous unicorn or the green non-friend (why is everyone green here?). I turn away from him and instead towards the horse, though my blade still swings towards the non-friend.

"You're beautiful. I just want you to know that,"

"I hate it here," the boy sobbed.

Unicorn touched his cheek with her muzzle, catching the shed tear. Though it did not heal as her own did, it was warm and full of life. "This place, it isn't real. It's only a dream," she whispered.

She felt certain this must be true.

She could not be the last of her kind -- the Last Unicorn, the Last B*#, the Last One.

"You're beautiful. I just want you to know that."

Unicorn batted her long lashes. Brilliant purple eyes filled with Rapunzel's reflection. "And you are more beautiful than any flower, even a lily of the valley."

She pawed the ground, deciding upon something, and then charging. "And far more dangerous too, I suspect."

she doesn't even look at me while she tries to kill me, and that just makes me so frickin' mad. she could at least have the decency to care that she's trying to kill me, to care that i'm going to die by her hand if she swings in the right way. i roll away, still a lion, slashing out at the unicorn as i do, but on the way up i realize she's managed to slice across my hip, and blood mats my fur. "this isn't right," i try and plead with the unicorn. "it should be me and you against her, right?"

I see them clearer now. The lights, no longer celebrating my birth, but instead my impeding death. I barely notice the stinging pain as my arm separates from my body. At least my hair is still in tact. I begin to sing, a soothing son to the pair of them. My hair lights up as the lanterns grow brighter.

"Flower gleam and glow. Let your powers shine. Make the clock reverse. Bring back what once was mine."

I want to calm them down, even as I know my fate is sealed. I swing my shiny stick, perhaps for the last time.

Unicorn huffs, exhausted from the charge. The ringing in her ears ("it's-a me!") has not abated. It loops and twists and fills her with a sickening dread. "I don't know what's right any more."

She stumbles.

she starts to sing and man, i really feel like i'm losing it. because i expect it to upset me more. make me feel something. get me all misty eyed and whatever but i just. she sets my teeth on edge. but then the unicorn misses and that also makes me angry and my paw is slashing out at her again before i can think twice about it. i want her to be better. want her to be worse. i want everyone here to be more innocent and less innocent and just. i don't want to be here. "stop singing!"

I thought death was here. I thought that last blow would be my last, but alas it seems I have one more in me. The creature screams to stop singing, but I don't care, I sing louder, ready to end the world with a song in my throat. The music takes away all pain, I only feel joy as I move my remaining arm in their direction.

"Heal what has been hurt. Change the fates design. Save what has been lost."

Slowly, Unicorn realizes she's been singing. But her ears are so full of the Mario Mario Mario that she can barely make out the words. Still, just to know that there is still music in the world is a sort of magic of its own.

Unicorn stumbles towards her, jelly hooves slick. "I know that song, I think."

i hate that the unicorn isn't even answering me. it's paying me no mind, my own blade doing little to hurt it, but still. it was off putting in the worst kind of way. like i was small, and incapable, and not even worth the unicorn's attention. something about that hurt even more than the blonde girl's knife. "i don't know it," i say. "i don't want to know it." the singing is setting all my nerves on edge, and i slash at the unicorn again. "stop singing."
