I've killed two people. This is very off-brand for a kid's cartoon show character, yet I feel like it's something that's always been expected of me. The monsters behind the masks in Scooby-Doo always seem to be bland white men who are very lonely in their offtime. Trust me, on set, most of them don't even crack a smile. Yet there's no eco-goth people under those costumes? Did you see an ounce of eyeliner or makeup under those masks? No ma'am.

A pirate swallowed my coins in one big gulp and gave me a sword in exchange. While I'm grateful, I hope that a chance in pace can help propel me to victory. And then, as night fell and the sun rose on the pier, a hot dog on a stick (shaped like a cross!) and a bottle of 7-Up apiered by my side. Well then, it looks like they're deciding to be kind. I drink the pop furiously but leave the hot dog where it is. I'm a fucking vegan!

As I leave the pier, I hear a crackling of fire. The wooden panels all combust. I've got to pick up the pace if I don't want to fall into the ocean! Hurrying back to the safety of land, sword and spear in hand, I pray that I don't run into another character. I feel so weak already, and I don't know if I could take another beating.

Yet here we are, at another showdown. I ache, but I know what must be done. It's someone I've seen before, back when I finally get Velma to stop following me. Maybe I should've taken my drumstick to him while I had the chance.

"Let's cast some more spells," I say to myself, readying both of my drumsticks. My new sword is the first one I decided to try out.

Oh my god I just killed someone. Like, not knocked them out, but full on un-alived them. Who knew that murder could make you just, like, feel like sh-ship? (and not the stuff drying on my head, though that sucks too).

But there's still no sign of the others, or my boomerang, or my dignity anywhere. There can't be many of us left, right? Like come on, how much more do I have to do in order to find the others? Was one murder not enough?

A girl appears, and suddenly there's a searing pain in my arm. Or, rather, what used to be my arm. I may or may not scream. Haven't I suffered enough?

Huh. Suppose not.

The sword lands a furious shot upon my enemy. Looks like this stick is much more in tune. Better yet, my drumsticks draw, criss-crossed in front of me, dodging the person's spear from making landfall. The waters of the ocean are slowly rising, closer and closer to our battle. If we're not done soon, both of us might get stranded out in sea.

"What would we give to go back home, right? Carefree, safe.."

I want to go back to my world of Scooby-Doo, but go on my own adventures and explore new places and solve my own mysteries. I can do it all, but there's still a few more people who need to fall.

Velma Dinkley, Penelope Pitstop, and now this one. I'll know his name when I see it in the stars tonight.

Yeah that went about as well as attacking someone with a semi-familiar weapon with my non-dominant hand could go. Oh well.

I watch as she takes a break, chokes down some truly god-awful looking ice cream (oh god, is she a masochist?) before returning her attention to the fight.

"What would we give to go back home, right? Carefree, safe.." says the girl, and there's something earnest about it, something that tugs at the strings of my heart. Which is really weird, given that, yanno, she just chopped my arm clean off.

"Yeah," I respond, looking out to the sea. "Home."

At least if I die, I'll die looking at the same view I grew up with.

I seem to have struck a nerve with the boy. Actually, I clearly did with the whole, uh, arm being chopped off, but mentally, too. I look at him in the eyes. "I didn't mean it like that. I meant, uh, a place of peace, joy, comfort. We all want to get there." Hopefully after this sick game, that's where all of the fallen might go. Maybe Velma's already back to solving mysteries with her gang.

I swing my sword at him again. Home, for one of us, is but a blink of darkness away.

Too long I spend gazing out into the familiar abyss. Too long do I leave myself open. Pain erupts from my back as an icy finger draws itself down my spine.

Next thing I know, I have a face full of sand and red, red blood staining everything in front of me.

So this is it, huh.

I'm sorry, Katara. I tried. No, seriously, I really did! Whatever test that I have now failed, it wasn't because of my own negligence, for once.

Shakily, I stand. Unsteadily, I turn.

"I meant, uh, a place of peace, joy, comfort," the girl is saying. "We all want to get there."

I think of the memories with my friends. That's close enough, isn't it?

"I had that, before, well, all of this happened," I manage between gasps of air. "Was worth it, 'n the end."

Worth it enough to keep fighting, keep on suffering in this miserable existence? Keep struggling, up until the very end?

I think so.

The destruction that an environment such as this can do to people sickens me.. And here I was, on day one looking for stardom and fame while others yearn to feel the basic quality of happiness once again.

I almost feel guilty as my sword lands another beaming hit to his backside.

Can I do this? Drumsticks weren't made to play such a somber and sad song.

I wasn't made to live through a brutal and harsh game like this one.

I swallow my emotions, just for a moment. I've always meant to put comfort and closure in my music, but here, every note played is chaos.
