Name: Christian Aidan Douglas-Morrisen
Age: 15
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 4
Appearance: (Face claim: Kenton Duty)
Christian is tall and strong. In fact, he looks more muscular than really seems natural given that he still looks so young. It is not the kind of physique that can possibly come naturally, but rather one that comes from hours upon hours of work. Christian's face retains his youth, in spite of exercising and fasting alike. Christian doesn't mind the visual reminder of how young he is, though. He dreams of being one of the youngest victors.
Christian has blond hair that he keeps pretty short so that it won't get in his way. It's not even close to being a buzz-cut, though - Christian likes his hair too much. When he was younger, he grew it so long that you could braid it. Even today, Christian's constantly mussing his hair in what he hopes to be an attractive way - when he's trying to look better or get attention, when he's nervous or bored. Just constantly.
His eyes are blue. But not the bright blue some people have. His are a dull blue, almost grey-blue. Above them, his eyebrows are sharp with a distinctively high arch. He has a bright smile with naturally perfectly straight teeth, but he doesn't smile much these days. Nowadays his brows are furrowed in concentration, or he's glaring, or posturing. He's gotten tough and even mean. He rarely seems genuinely happy anymore. But happiness is over-rated, right?
Personality:
Above all, Christian wants to be loved. He would never admit it, not in a million years. He doesn't even really consciously admit it to himself. But it's always there, a burning all-consuming desire. He doesn't really have many healthy models for what love looks, like, though. He settles for attention or a sense of being wanted. That's the same thing as love, isn't it?
Christian is ambitious, though that comes mostly from his father. He wants to be a victor. Better yet, he wants to be a young victor. He knows he hasn't been training as long as many careers, but he doesn't care. Call him cocky, but he thinks he's ready. Well... he hopes he is. Sometimes his dad seems to think so, too, but other times he tears Christian down and makes him feel like dirt. But that just means he has to work harder to please the man he loves so much. The man that he thinks maybe, just maybe, might love him back. So he does work hard. He works until he collapses and then he gets back up and pushes some more.
Christian is deeply insecure. Thanks in large part to his father, but it goes back farther than him. But Christian would never admit to this. Instead, he covers it up by acting cocky. He makes himself feel better by tearing other people down. He's sarcastic and sassy. He's super competitive and loves beating other people in sparring matches, as it gives him a boost of confidence. There is nothing that he hates more than losing said match. Well, save perhaps his father's disappointment. When he loses a match, he'll be in a foul mood all week, lashing out at anyone and everyone (well, save his dad. He wouldn't dare).
History:
When Christian's mother fell pregnant with him, her then-boyfriend promptly left. For as long as Christian can remember, he was aware of this fact. Aware that his father hadn't wanted him. He also got the strong impression that his mother blamed him for his birth-father leaving. She never said as much, but he knew. He could tell in the way she was sometimes unreasonably grumpy with him, or in the way she looked at him, as if he'd done something wrong. As a result, Christian never felt entirely loved as a child. He made friends easily back then, but he wasn't particularly close to any of them. They were just kids that he ran around with and surfed with. Christian's mother had been a career when she was young, but she never forced Christian into training, and he wasn't much interested in it when he was little. He didn't see the point - he'd much rather spend his time playing.
Everything changed when Christian's mother fell in love with Alabaster Morrison. It was a whirlwind romance, with the two getting married within months of meeting. Christian was not the type to be jealous or resentful of the new man in his mother's life. Just the opposite - he was perhaps even happier than his mother. He'd dreamed of having a father as a child and now he had one. A father who seemed genuinely happy to have him. A father who cared. Or at least, Christian thought he cared. He was certainly invested, at least.
Per his new father's wishes, Christian started training. He was already 11, much older than the age most kids started at. But he worked extra hard to make up for it. He spent all day lifting weights, sparring, running. He fought with a wide variety of weapons (though he soon discovered he was best with a sword and started specializing in that), he fought hand to hand. At dinner he would recite the most lethal places to stab someone, or the steps to mending a deep cut. At night, in bed, he read books about edible and medicinal plants. He practiced fishing, both for food and to desensitize himself to killing. He learned to make nets and fishing hooks. He learned to make traps until his hands were blistered. He learned to spot and evade traps the hard way. The same with learning to defend himself and to always be on alert.
Christian never complained, no matter how hard he was pushed or what abuses he endured. He didn't have time for surfing or playing or friends anymore, and sometimes he missed it, but he never said as much out loud. Christian was willing to do whatever it took to earn his father's love. His father pushed him even harder than the girls, but Christian pushed himself still harder. He's injured himself on multiple occasions from pushing too hard. He is desperate for his father's love and will do anything to earn his praise. Christian is very defensive of his father, perhaps because deep down he knows that what his father is doing is wrong. So Christian won't hear a word against him and has gotten into fistfights before when people insult his father.
Christian's relationship with his mother has improved. Now that she has a new love, she's less resentful. She occasionally tries to get Christian to take a break or does something sweet for him to try and take care of him since he never takes care of himself. But she never stands up to her husband, even on her children's behalf. As for his sister's... he's not terribly close to either of them. Annie especially he holds a lot of resentment for, jealous of her winning the games and angry about her attitude towards their father. Trish he mostly views as competition for their father's attention - he just assumes that's something she wants, too, because he himself wants it so desperately. And he's subconsciously a little bitter towards both of them, because they're Alabaster's children by blood, something he can never be.
