the forresters | d7 cult [open]

They are a legacy nestled in the hinterlands of Seven, and they are as wild as their home. People say that all of their hymns are all howls. People say it’s bad luck if they catch a glimpse of them. People say, or rather, warn:

‘‘don’t let the Forresters get a hold of you.’’

Primal, savage, and having no desires to be anything else, the Forresters live in the accord with the rules of their old gods, reveling in nature, draped under bear-skins, weaving flower-crowns, and the most important rule of all: giving back to nature. 

All are roots, and to roots they shall return.

Their calcified, flower-adorned altars of bone glisten on most full moons with animal blood and, yearly, the blood of a special youth chosen for the endeavor, for the sacrifice. It is an honor to be chosen, it is an honor to be returned. The path to the altar is thick with incense and radiant with glory. It is an honor, to the Forresters, to spill one’s throat for the old gods.

But a few years ago, Vargen Forrester had carved out a new path, one that is considered a novelty but blood-stained all the same. In his wish to not be a sacrifice, he chose to collect sacrifices instead, going from a bared throat to the blade meant to cut it. He succeeded collecting two before becoming one himself. A saint, they call him these days, dedicating the boy an altar made from wolf teeth. Now the Forresters know that the old gods drink any kind of blood they are offered.

Fresh, though, is always the most sacred.

After months and months of sleeping on expanding this plot, they are finally here: the Forresters, a Midsommar-centric, Princess Mononoke-esque, batshit cult hipster community that is heavily inspired by the Norse myths and worships the old gods of nature. They also used to perform a yearly ritual in which they sacrifice their own children! Fun! 

As for face-claims, the Forresters' defining trait is their platinum blonde hair, but anyone that passes as a Nordic person will be fine. You can also choose to play characters of mixed race as the cult recruits people routinely to make sure their numbers remain strong and plump. 

Family relations are intentionally kept vague. Everyone is family, everyone is cherished by the old gods.

☾  you're fragile—almost too fragile for a girl born from the blood of the old gods. you were told ichor runs through your veins, that all forresters were touched by divinity, but you still bleed red. there is nothing special about you. you weren't as devout as vierra, not as callous as freyja, not as sharp as vanir, not as brash as svetlana. they were born from everything cruel and proud, but not you. you carried the name maiken forrester but you were nowhere near what a forrester should be: savage.

and one day there will be the death of the gods too. the giants will rise in monoliths of flesh from the hills, our earth trembling like a newborn babe in the strange awakening of a new world.

Character Idea: fc betty belle!! eighteen. kinda becoming a little disenchanted with the forresters as of late. always believed that 'we' should be the sacrifices and is side-eyeing vargen's whole transformation of the culture. she feels it was a cop-out on his part. thinking about deserting but would never say that out loud. acts out and has an attitude. bullies maiken???

character idea: her name means merciful and it's always been a running joke within the family because the old gods never forgave weakness, they never looked kindly upon mercy. and so, why should she? devout to the point of zealotry, eira soaks herself in the waters of the forest, in the blood of the animals that give their lives to sustain them. she was born under the hunter's moon where fattened deer and foxes no longer linger in the shadows. the hunter's moon glows bright in the sky, illuminating all. allowing the huntress to stalk her prey.

Character Ideas: Astra is a 11 year old Forrester who often get bullied by older relatives. She is the Forrester part of flower crowns, since she hates blood. She literally screams "I'm bleeding, help, I'm BLEEDING!" when she gets the tiniest little cut. Her name means "in the stars".

she came here out of the ground, out of the dust and the cracked dirt, born from the soil. the mud under her fingernails never comes out (it doesn't matter how hard her mama scrubs). she can't sleep unless the stars are watching her, and sometimes she just can't sleep at all. those nights, the moon begs her to bare witness. she is a fallen angel of the old gods (oh, for i have sinned), restless and reckless, desperate to repent and ascend her spirit. the sacrifice is the final salvation. cracked lips kiss the bleeding gashes in her flesh. (she'll give everything, but will everything be enough?)
