robin keeni, district 6The afternoon crawled past in a dreary heat. Sweat dripped aimlessly down his neck staining the back of the scouts' uniform. Robin awaited any visitors who might come and try and attack, but so far, so good - knocking on wood in his head as he traipsed around the adventure course. He'd checked the canteen he'd nearly died in the bloodbath for, but no water. The silver flask taunted him, but he was confident in his ability to find something to drink. It wasn't like the toxic wasteland that Flynn had faced last year, the lustrous flora and fauna promised a more natural landscape.
There were certain things to expect out of an arena like this - insects, big ol' bugs. Robin had never been squeamish so the idea of fighting some two-headed cockroach wasn't the worst nightmare he could have. He thought back to the year they'd had dark cavern systems where you couldn't see if you didn't have a lantern, fighting in the dark. Or the year they were in a literal hourglass sinking in the sands and having to not drown. Enclosed spaces were not made for an agile boy, his best chances were somewhere he could run far and free. Maybe that's why he found an odd comfort in the obstacles strewn around him, their simple wooden designs reminiscent of home.
Robin found himself spending the afternoon teetering around the course. Tiptoeing on the wooden walls, swinging around on the rope. It seemed irresponsible, silly even, to enjoy the day like this but - he couldn't see anyone, surely he could outrun half of the people in this arena? No? Robin could see one hundred possible exits in all surrounding areas, and the handy pull-string bag he'd picked up hugged him tightly. What was wrong with a little fun when he was bound to die this week anyway? Robin could hear Flynn screaming in his head to do something more productive, but he'd already disappointed the young mentor in finding an alliance, and it didn't seem like Robin would end up doing much better.
The climbing rope had teased him all afternoon, the bell at the top calling his name. Wouldn't it be cool if he could show off to the audience by climbing? That would pull some sponsors in, right? Show the kid from Six has some tricks up his sleeve? Hell, he'd somehow already managed an eight from his private training score - Lord knows how he'd accomplished such a high number. Was it just meant to be a target? Take this idiot out first for wasting our time? Robin marched towards the rope and gripped it in both hands looking starkly upwards. He put his bag to the side of the course as to not weigh him down in his climb.
Time to show off.
Doing a JFF dice roll for myself, Robin trying to climb the rope.
For this evening, 4-Sided Dice Roll.
1: Robin successfully climbs halfway up the rope
2-4: He pulls himself up once, a couple of feet off the ground, and immediately falls back down.
