walking in my sleep
like the naked trees
will they wake up again?
do they sleep? do they dream?
like the naked trees
will they wake up again?
do they sleep? do they dream?
It was surprisingly lonely.
Even though hundreds of people came every day to see Bell, her hologram lived an unfulfilling life. Fans, who came to simply admire her. They would stare at her tall stature, just as beautiful in hologram form as she was in life. They decided to present the tributes just before the gong sounded, just before Death entered the arena. Her uniform was untouched and not a hair was out of place. The only scars that were visible was a small one under her eye from the Academy. She looked perfect, nothing like her last moments.
There were also history buffs who came to visit. They would ask countless questions, wanting her to relive every moment in the arena. Sometimes, they’d even boot up the Ridley hologram, just to watch her suffer once more. And of course there were the hecklers. The ones who booted you up just to tease you. They were happy to see the villain served justice.
The queen torn from her throne.
Helpless as she watched her kingdom crumble.
It had grown old, same thing day in and day out. So, when her hologram booted to life she was expecting nothing less than the usual, but when she finally opened her eyes she was shocked.
Beck.
Bell did her best to keep the surprise off her face. It had been the last person she expected to see, but the one she’d been hoping for all along. Instead of letting her face betray her she crossed her arms, popped her hip, and put on a smirk she was known all too well for.
”Well, well, well. I was wondering when you would finally show your face around here,”
She wanted to hate him. She wanted to hate him so bad for being out there while she was stuck in an endless loop, only existing when people called upon her. She wanted to hate him so bad for surviving, but she couldn’t despise him simply because he was better than her.
”One of us was bound to win. I always thought it would be me, but I guess you’re a pretty good second choice,” she said with an airy laugh, a smirk still playing on her lips.
She wanted so badly to hate him.
But how do you hate the only person who’s ever cared for you?
