After the reaping, the two of us boarded the train together. I wonder if they've always done this— allowed district partners to be in the same train car together. I have a feeling that in the past, it could've caused some sort of issue for the Capitol, like if the tributes started plotting something against the Capitol or whatever. Of course, that wouldn't be something for them to be concerned about in regards to me, but I couldn't speak for the other tributes.

As I board the train, I don't take a seat. I feel more comfortable standing. It was easier to be on guard that way. Looking at the girl who'd been reaped along side me, I wonder how she feels about all of this. Is she excited for the opportunity to fight in the Hunger Games like I am? Or, rather, is she the total opposite of thrilled?

I suppose that doesn't really matter. Twenty-three of us will be dead soon anyway. I just have to make sure it's not me. Maybe, I think to myself, I should figure out a thing or two about her so that I know what I'm up against.

I'm not the type to get emotionally attached, so it's not like anything she can say will make me not want to fight her later. The only thing a conversation here can do for me is benefit me.

"So," I start, "The Games."

I look at her for a moment.

"Thoughts?"
