The Cornucopia Upon rising into the Arena on their plates, the first thing the tributes will see is a field of gravestones. With a closer look, you will find that all of the markers have no names inscribed onto them, and there is no sign that anything has been buried there. Maybe you will be, in a few days, if you’re unlucky. Nevertheless, that isn’t the only thing of note about the Cornucopia. A mausoleum of sorts stands in the place of the traditional horn, with large white pillars and ornate gargoyles adorning the outside. If you try the doors, you’ll find that they will not open. Surely the Gamemakers are mocking you with a decorative reminder of your impending doom. ~ Sunrise Rainier D2 // [Thundy] |

Petal Storm The wind starts slow: a draft, barely enough to rustle your hair, certainly much less interesting than the carpet of petals under your feet. Then it builds: a breeze, a flurry, a gale, picking up more and more of those petals until the air becomes a ceaseless swirl of every color imaginable. Tributes who brave the storm will walk on past strange plants—barren-looking shrubs that shed flowers from hidden centers as they sway in the wind, trees exploding with color as the grafted branches of dozens of species blossom at once—and eventually break through to an eye of stillness at the center of the area. It's beautiful here, with a still pond covered in gently floating petals—almost idyllic, if not for the howl of the wind not far away, and the ever-present promise of the Games haunting you. ~WT |

Emerald Field - 1 Viewing In the northwest corner of the Arena lies the Emerald Field, a location just as dazzling as the name suggests. Gems of all colors and shapes litter the ground, and the expanse of shining stones stretches on for miles. Despite their beauty and brilliance, there’s a fatal flaw to this expanse; there are no boulders or patches of forest with which to hide yourself. No hills, no valleys, no hiding -- just a flat array of ridiculously expensive gems. Are the Gamemakers mocking you with this extravagant display of wealth where you cannot use it? Probably. ~ Sunrise Rainier D2 // [Thundy] |

Cloud Spire The Cloud Spire looms over the open field around it like a monument, though what it might be a monument to is hard to say. A massive tower too tall to look natural and too ragged to look intentional, it less invites you and more dares you to ascend the rough but visible path spiraling around its edges. Crane your neck upward at the base, and you can see hints of what awaits you: trees clinging to the side of the spire for dear life, birds taking wing or returning home to roost, an occasional glint of eyes as climbing creatures peer at you before skittering away. But all vanishes, eventually, into a dense and preternaturally still mass of clouds. The only way to learn what waits at the top is to chase it down yourself. ~ WT |

Red Beach From afar, the Red Beach might seem like a welcome sign of potable water. After all, this is the most obvious place for water to be in the arena. There’s the telltale glint of a mirror-like surface from afar, a mirage come true, but tributes who stumble across this location searching for a drink will be sorely disappointed. It’s unclear if this area borders the ocean or a lake; the water is incredibly salty, but it has the stillness of glass. Perhaps more importantly, any tribute wandering by might find the beach and water suspect. Is it blood that makes the area red, or something else? Either way, only the brave should linger. ~ Sunrise Rainier D2 // [Thundy] |

Catacombs These are someone else's catacombs. Lovingly fashioned, from the ornately carved pillars supporting the airy central chamber to the intricate art around the loculi dotting the walls of the meandering tunnels, this is the kind of burial place one crafts for the famous and beloved—not for tributes, all but the luckiest of whom Panem will readily forget. And yet there can be no doubt that this is still the Arena; that the gemstone eyes of creatures engraved in the walls are meant to follow you as they flicker in the light, that the statues standing sentry were designed for you to find, that the spiral staircase in the middle of that central chamber is an invitation—that the yawning maw of every empty loculus, stacked in columns stretching far past where the light gives way, is a threat. ~ WT |
